Places Of The Past

Lincoln Park opened in 1894 on Route 6 in North Dartmouth Massachusetts. It was originally called Midway Park. The park in the 1980's started to decline and on December 3rd 1987, it was officially closed. The abandoned park sat for many years until its "Comet" Roller Coaster was demolished on July 11, 2012. Apartment buildings will be set up in place of the park.

City View Golf Land was located at 576 Faunce Corner Road in North Dartmouth Massachusetts. It was built in 1965 and was owned by the late Walter J. Tomkiewicz. It provided a fun golfing experience for kids and adults of all ages. City View Golf Land closed in 2010.

The New Bedford Armory was built in 1902, and is located on 5 Sycamore Street in New Bedford Massachusetts. The Armory was the base for 200 National Guards and Community Exhibits. The Armory is rumored to be haunted by a ghost of a Sergeant which is why in 2004, it was featured in an episode of Ghost Hunters. In March of 2009, a fire occured in the attic and was believed to be set on purpose. The building is now owned by the state and guarded by a private security company.

The Bijou Theater was located on 350 Main Street in Fairhaven Massachusetts. The Theater opened in 1923 as The American Theater. In 1990, The Theater was named Bijou and opened with a showing of the Patrick Swayze Film "Ghost". Admission was only $2.00 and the items at the concession stand were only $1.50. The Bijou closed in 2004 as the one screen theater could not compete with Multi-Plexes and Imax Films.

Rocky Point Amusement Park was located in Warwick Rhode Island. The idea of the Park was the thought of Captain William Winslow in the 1840's. The Park officially opened in 1847 after Captain William Winslow purchased the land. Rocky Point Park was the place to go for New Englanders for many years. In the 1990's the Park was slowly losing money as the owners tried to keep it up to date. The Park closed in 1995 but on June 25, 2011 the Park was once again opened to the public as a walking trail for adults to share their memories with their children. On September 17, 2012, It was decided that Rocky Point will be developed into a State Park.
